Shoe Shopping on eBay

Buying shoes on eBay UK is a lesson in fun and caution. While the savings are there, if you didn’t get what you paid for, the savings are inconsequential. Going from “happy shopper” to “satisfied buyer,” means a little luck and following some simple guidelines.

1. Visit the Resolution and Safety Centre pages on eBay UK, both are accessible from Help. You will learn the basics of how to shop and pay safely and what to expect if you don’t receive what you thought you purchased. It may not be fun, but it helps avoid the rude shock, heartache and pain associated with being cheated and losing money. Also, read seller feedback and let that help you decide from whom to buy.

2. If you grew up in a large family, you either wore other people’s shoes or went barefoot. If you never had to share shoes, before you buy, be honest with yourself about wearing shoes that others have worn. If you absolutely cannot imagine being in pre-worn shoes, look for the terms new, unworn, original box and dust bags in the details. If they are new and unworn you will likely see these in the title. If not, they have probably been worn. (Note to Sellers: Don't show photos of shoes with feet in them!)

3. Two words: Designer Shoes! Three words: Do your research! From Prada to Jimmy Choo, and Gucci to Coach, designer shoes are available at amazing savings. The compromise is that most have been worn, some quite a bit, and some are, unfortunately, impostors. If you know designer shoes well, you are in a great position to judge the value of what is offered. If not, visit a store, a web site or a friend’s wardrobe and look at the genuine article.

Know the logo and the hallmark details of that particular designer. When pictures obscure, rather than enhance these details, approach this seller cautiously. Ask sellers for pictures that reveal these details. If they are legitimate, they'll not hesitate. A good sign would be a photo offered of the sole embossed with the logo and origin, as in “Prada – Made in Italy.”

4. You’ve found the genuine article. You’re ready to buy. You look at your petite size 3 feet (or your comfy size 7s). Will they really fit? Each shoe manufacturer has its peculiarities with size. Does this designer tend to run small? Or, are they generous about width? Learn what you can from your research. Then, if you are still less than positive, err on the large side. It is easier to make a larger shoe work than it is to try it the other way around.
